And how do I segment subscribers by tags?
A friend asked me this question and after my fifth screenshot, I thought it might be clearer to just lay it out in a post.
This example was done using the new editor in ConvertKit. As I have only been a ConvertKit customer for 30 days or so, I don’t have experience using the legacy editor.
How to tag a link
Add a tag by typing it into the text box, or choose an existing tag.
Note: I’ve typed new tags in and had them seemingly disappear, but after trying it two or three times, found the new tag in the drop-down list.
Sending emails to the subscribers on your list who have clicked specific tags
If you want to send out an email just to subscribers who have clicked links that triggered specific tags, there are two ways to do so:
- Create a broadcast and send it to that tag,
- Create a segment, and send the broadcast to that segment.
Sending a broadcast to a specific tag
- Under “Who will receive this broadcast?” click the “Add Filter Group” button.
- Click “Add Filter” and then choose “tags” from the drop-down.
3. Select the tag you’d like to use.
You will then see the tag you chose, plus the number of subscribers associated with that tag.
(I just started my list so I currently only have 13 under the “Clicked-thru at least once” tag).
Creating a segment, and sending a broadcast to that segment
You can create a segment to use in the future by choosing the “Create a Segment” link from the right sidebar.
Choose a descriptive name that you will recognize when sending future broadcasts.
You can then select subscribers by tag. You can also enter additional tags if you’d like.
When you’re sending a new broadcast, you will be able to select the segment by name.
